Founded May 14, 1872
The Bismarck Tribune published its first edition on July 11, 1873. On May 14, 1889 the Constitutional Convention was held in Bismarck where the Dakota Territory was admitted into the Union as two states.
The North Dakota capital building was completed in 1934. With a simple outside look, and with an expensive, glamorous, design on the inside, it was nicknamed “The Prairie Palace”.
